Abstract

This study was on experimental study to investigate the effect of health education on the importance of health and performance of health promoting behavior in elementary school students. This study was nonequivalant control group pretest-posttest design.
Data have been collected from September 24, 2001 to December 22, 2001, 48 students 4th, 5th, 6th graders of ¡¯K¡¯ elementary school and ¡¯S¡¯ elementary school, which were located in ¡¯K¡¯gun, Kyungpook were chosen and were assigned as an experimental group(25) and as a control group(23).
The basis for the method of this study was invented by Kyong Sook Ki( 1985) and a health practice check list was used 8 weeks.
Collected data were analyzed by SPSS program using frequency, percentage, ¥ö2 -test, t-test, and pearson correlation coefficients.
The results of this study were as follows;
There was no significant difference in the result of verifying general characteristics, health related characteristics and importance of health, health promoting behavior performance of the subjects.
The experiment group, which received health education, showed higher importance of health than control group which given that(t=2.53, p<.05).
The experiment group, which received health education, showed higher health promoting behavior performance than control group which given that(t=5.85, p<.001).
The perceived importance of health in the experiment group was positively correlated with daily life habit including personal hygiene(r=.47, p<.01), prevention of infectious diseases(r=.49, p<.01), prevention of accident(r=.50, p<.0l), mental health(r=.56, p<.0l).
In the score of health promoting behavior performance in the experiment group, the highest domain was the prevention of infectious diseases, then mental health, prevention of accident and daily life habit including personal hygiene.
